Charles Vs. William: A Battle Of Wills
Reportedly, clashes between Prince William and King Charles behind the scenes are not uncommon. A palace insider shared this insight with Robert Jobson, as reported by Page Six. The source revealed that William’s impatience “can make him short-tempered when dealing with Charles.” Adding to the tension is Charles’s own temper, which has been witnessed in public on multiple occasions.
Evidently, William’s temper differs significantly from his father’s. As per the source, “The Boss (Charles) has a temper, too, but it does not linger. He may get frustrated and flare up momentarily, but then it’s quickly forgotten. With William, however, it tends to linger and isn’t easily forgotten.”
According to the insider, Charles has been irritated by William’s anger on numerous occasions, although he can’t claim to be surprised by it. Allegedly, William and even his estranged brother Harry inherit their temper from Charles’s first wife, the legendary Princess Diana.
Anger That Traces Its Way Back To Princess Diana
Princess Diana not only served as Prince William’s mother but also shared many similarities with her son during her time as a working royal. Quickly earning the title of “the people’s princess,” she garnered widespread popularity and consistently topped popularity polls, much like William does today.
Depending on who you ask, Princess Diana purportedly had a hidden streak of anger that she could conceal from the public but not from family members who disappointed or irritated her. Page Six reported royal expert Robert Jobson’s assertion that Charles saw in both his sons a reflection of his former wife’s anger: “He knew that they were both strong-willed, stubborn even; conflict would be very difficult to manage and could have a detrimental impact on the monarchy itself.”
Despite understanding the source of this anger, the intensity of it could still surprise the king at times. “Sometimes the level of belligerence between his sons, and indeed towards him, has shocked Charles,” Dobson remarked.
Harry Is Often The Source Of William’s Anger
It’s not surprising to hear that Prince Harry is purportedly one of the primary sources of William’s anger, given their estrangement. In his autobiography “Spare,” Harry reportedly doesn’t hold back in describing an alleged incident between himself and his brother that escalated into violence.
Back in 2019, Harry and William got into a serious argument about Meghan Markle. According to Harry’s book “Spare,” William called Meghan “difficult” and “rude.” Harry was upset, thinking William was just repeating what the media said about her.
Harry recounted that things got so heated in the argument that William “grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and … knocked me to the floor.” Harry mentioned he was left with visible back injuries from the scuffle. Fast forward two years, and the tension was still high. The Independent reported that during Prince Philip’s funeral, Charles had to step in between his sons to prevent another physical fight, pleading, “Please boys, don’t make my final years a misery,” according to Harry.
