While wives weren’t technically welcomed to poker nights with their husbands in their own homes in the 1950s, they were expected to keep the beer in the fridge filled. That seems reasonable.

In another indicator of the times, Hormel marketed its chili cans as substantial dinners that featured protein-rich beef that was otherwise expensive to get at the time.
