Barack Obama watched “Swarm,” the series Malia Obama worked on as a writer
Malia Obama earned a writing credit for the fifth episode of “Swarm,” titled “Girl, Bye.” The episode featured a brief reference to Donald Trump, the man who succeeded her father in the White House. In one scene, actual footage of former CNN anchor Don Lemon recapping Trump’s controversial moments was used, clearly not meant to flatter him. This was one of the more subdued moments in an episode where the show’s protagonist, Dre (played by Dominique Fishback), finds herself in danger. Janine Nabers, co-creator of “Swarm,” told ET that it was the “wildest” episode of the series. She also praised Malia’s contributions, saying, “Some of her pitches were wild as hell, and they were just so good and so funny.”
Barack Obama talked with comedian Hasan Minhaj about watching “Swarm.” He checked out the show not just because Malia worked on it, but also because he’s a fan of Donald Glover’s series “Atlanta.” The interview took an interesting turn when Minhaj focused on the explicit scene in the pilot, which Barack found “disturbing.” Even though the conversation didn’t dwell much on Malia’s work, actress Dominique Fishback, who stars in “Swarm,” had great things to say about her. She told E! News that working with Malia was a fantastic experience and that she thinks Malia is incredibly smart and cool.

Celebrities often get invited to special events at the White House, and that’s where Chlöe Bailey first met Malia Obama. She told The Hollywood Reporter, “We’d see each other, like at the White House Easter Egg Roll.” Reconnecting with Malia on the set of “Swarm,” Bailey said, “Seeing her again as we were older and evolved into women, owning ourselves and our creative minds, it was really cool.”
Now that Malia is busy with her own life away from the White House, she hangs out with Hollywood stars outside of work too. In August 2023, Malia and her sister, Sasha, were seen at a party hosted by Drake at The Bird Streets Club in West Hollywood. For the event, Malia rocked a patterned KNWLS top with a lace-up front, showing off a stylish and daring look.
Malia and Sasha Obama were also spotted mingling with celebrities at a party thrown by Emma Stone to celebrate her fifth time hosting “Saturday Night Live” in 2023. The event was held at L’Avenue at Saks in New York City, where the Obama sisters were seen hanging out with “SNL” cast member Marcello Hernández. Malia also gets to meet stars during family vacations. In June 2023, the Obamas were photographed dining with Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson while visiting Greece.
