Her Birth Mother
To put it delicately, the circumstances surrounding her birth mother are complex. It’s unclear whether Zahara intends to establish communication with her birth mother or not.
Angelina Jolie mentioned in an interview with American journalist Ann Curry back in 2009 that Zahara’s biological mother had passed away from AIDS. Discussing the importance of funding education in less developed countries, she highlighted, “Zahara’s mother died of AIDS, so they would not have had any funds to send her to school.”
Unfortunate Beginning
However, in 2017, an exclusive Daily Mail online report claimed to have interviewed Mentewab Dawit Lebiso, Zahara’s birth mother.
She informed the British newspaper that as Zahara was conceived through rape, she made the decision to put her up for adoption. During the interview, Lebiso mentioned, “Angelina was more of a mother to her than I have ever been. Since she was a baby, she has been with her, but that doesn’t mean I don’t miss her.”
