For years, First Lady Jill Biden managed to balance two demanding roles: supporting her husband in the White House while continuing her lifelong passion for teaching. Now, after more than four decades in education, she has decided to close the chapter on her teaching career.
A Career Built on Education
Jill Biden’s story has always been deeply tied to the classroom. She began teaching English in the mid-1970s and later worked with students in community colleges, where she found her true calling. Community colleges, often serving first-generation students and working adults, became the heart of her mission as an educator.
Her journey eventually led her to Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), where she taught English for 15 years. What made her career unique is that even after stepping into the role of First Lady, she refused to give up teaching. She became the first presidential spouse in U.S. history to keep a full-time job outside the White House, a decision that earned her respect from both colleagues and students.
